The Food Safety Project together with the National Food Authority launches "Learn to Read your Food" Awareness Campaign
30 Prill 2021
Starting May 1st 2021, The Food Safety Project in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Albania (MoARD) and National Food Authority (NFA) is launching a public awareness campaign titled ‘Learn to Read your Food’. Food labelling is an important tool that provides information for consumers. The campaign is focused on encouraging consumers to read labels before they buy food.
Albanian Government Decision No. 434 ‘On Food Labelling and Consumer Information’ is now in force and is approximated to European Union Law on provision of food information to consumers (EU Regulation 1169/2011). This is good news for consumers as important details such as allergens and nutrition information must be presented on food labels in Albanian. It also places the responsibility on food business operators to ensure that food labelling information is accurate, clear, easy to understand and is not misleading.
To help spread the ‘Learn to Read your Food’ message the campaign will be aired on the main Albanian TV media channels and social media networks of the partners’ institutions. It will also include an extended partnership with Albanian supermarkets’ through display of posters, designed to give consumers information on the key elements to help them in making the best food choices.
The Food Safety Project (“Support to food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary standards”) is funded by the European Union and implemented by a consortium led by FSAI. The implementing group also includes the Finnish Food Authority, the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Creative Business Solutions (CBS) in Albania.
