The Food Safety Project Together with NFA Organised Awareness Events in Four Shopping Centres Advising Costumers on Food Labelling
31 December 2021
During the last days of December, when shopping centres are at their busiest, the Food Safety Project together with NFA experts organised awareness events with supermarkets. Activities related to the “Learn to Read Your Food” awareness stand focused on advising consumers to make smart choices when buying food by carefully reading the labels.
During the events in four main Shopping Centres and big Supermarket chains in Tirana, more than 500 customers were involved in interactive discussions regarding new food labeling rules and national legislation of VKM 434/2018 on Food Labelling. There was huge interest especially on the rules around date of minimum durability and allergens.
The 360-degree awareness campaign “Learn to Read your Food” launched during 2021, it included TV advertisments, labelling posters, a labelling booklet and seminar. A series of workshops around Albania with NFA inspectors from 12 Regional offices are planned to be organised during 2022.
Funded by the European Union, the project "Support for Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Standards" is being implemented by a group led by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI). The implementing group also includes the Finnish Food Authority, the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Creative Business Solutions (CBS) in Albania.
