Continuation of Practical Training for Official Vets on Slaughterhouse Hygiene
Dr David Lynch, veterinary expert from Ireland returned to Albania at the end of April to deliver the second phase of practical training on slaughterhouse hygiene to AKVMB official veterinarians in Berat, Fier, Vlora, Lushnja, Korça and Gjirokastra.
Since December 2021 the EU funded capacity building Food Safety Project has provided support to AKVMB veterinary services including:
Supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) for official veterinarians
Training on meat inspection
Training on hygiene in slaughterhouses
Publication of a Food Safety Management Systems Guide for Small Slaughterhouses
The project is also working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to support development of new laws on official controls and animal health. Adoption and implementation of these laws will further demonstrate Albania’s commitment to delivering veterinary services in line with EU acquis (Chapter 12) requirements.
This action is funded by the European Union and is implemented by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland in partnership with the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and The Marine, the Finnish Food Safety Authority and Creative Business Solutions (CBS), Albania.
